Ann Arbor, Michigan  Brinks Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, has again been recognized as a top-tier law firm by U.S. News and World Report and Best Lawyers in the ninth annual edition of “Best Law Firms,” with Brinks receiving five national rankings and twelve metropolitan rankings.

The 2019 “Best Law Firms” list ranks Brinks nationally in Tier 1, the highest level, in the category of Patent Law for the ninth year in a row, in the category of Trademark Law for the seventh year in a row, and in the category of Litigation-Intellectual Property. The firm achieved a national Tier 2 ranking in Litigation-Patent, and advanced to a Tier 2 ranking in Copyright Law. Individual Brinks offices also received top rankings at the metropolitan level. Brinks’ office in Ann Arbor was again ranked in Tier 1 in Patent Law.

Inclusion in the U.S. News–Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” list signals professional excellence and consistently impressive ratings from clients and peers. The rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes the collection of client and lawyer feedback, peer review from leading attorneys, and review of additional information provided by law firms as part of the formal submission process.

To be considered for “Best Law Firms,” a firm must have at least one attorney listed in the current edition of Best Lawyers in America, which recognizes the top four percent of practicing attorneys in the United States. Steven L. Oberholtzer, Managing Shareholder of the Ann Arbor office, was recognized in August 2018 in The Best Lawyers in America© 2019 list in the area of patent law.  Oberholtzer has appeared on the Best Lawyers list since 2011. He is co-chair of Brinks’ Automotive Industry Group, which offers comprehensive counsel on intellectual property litigation, patent, licensing, trademark, copyright and trade secret issues involving nearly every major system associated with a vehicle, and has a close eye on the automotive market, including autonomy, mobility and connectivity, and the future of the industry.
