Oakland University, Washtenaw Community College sign transfer agreements for business and healthcare programs

Leaders from Oakland University and Washtenaw Community College have signed agreements that will help streamline the transfer process for students pursing bachelor’s degrees in business administration, applied health sciences and nursing.

The new agreements allow students from Washtenaw Community College to transfer an increased number of credits toward their degrees, and also ensure seamless movement of students between schools by offering course equivalencies that transfer to OU.

Under the agreements, students working toward a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration can transfer up to 79 credits. The previous maximum was 62 credits. This means that students only have to complete 45 to 54 credits at OU, depending on their major.

For students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Applied Health Sciences, the maximum number of transferable credits rises from 62 to 84. This leaves just 40 credits for students to complete at OU.

For students working toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the maximum number of transferable credits increases from 63 to 93. The additional 30 credits will be awarded for successful passing of the NCLEX-RN. OU will verify successful completion of NCLEX-RN and students will have only 32 credits left to complete OU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

This helps students save money, while also encouraging them to complete their associate degree at Washtenaw Community College. The agreements are effective through May 31, 2022, and are subject to review for continuation after three years for the business administration degree, and five years for the nursing and applied health sciences degrees.

“For at least the past 10 years, Washtenaw transfer students have consistently accounted for the first- and second- highest number of all enrolled undergraduate students at OU every academic year,” said Shane Lewis, director of Undergraduate Admissions at OU. “These agreements are part of our ongoing effort to make sure Washtenaw students continue to view OU as a top destination to achieve their goal of earning a degree.”

OU also offers the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) to Washtenaw Community College transfer students. This also means easier access for the region’s state college students, many of whom are the first generation in their families to seek higher education.
