Oakland University and Kirtland Community College have forged a series of new articulation agreements that will help Kirtland students transition to OU in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Applied Health Sciences, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Integrative Studies. The agreements help students save money by increasing the number of credits they may transfer to OU for each program.

Under the agreements, the number of accepted transfer credits increases as follows:

  • From 79 to 84 credits for Applied Health Sciences, leaving 40 credits to complete at OU

  • From 80 to 93 credits for Nursing, leaving 32 credits to complete at OU. Oakland will verify successful completion of the NCLEX-RN exam

  • From 75 to 88 credits for Integrative Studies, leaving 32 credits to complete at OU

The agreements provide specific course equivalencies for all students at Kirtland Community College who intend to pursue a degree from the School of Nursing, School of Health Sciences or Integrative Studies at Oakland. All agreements are effective through September 30, 2025 and are subject to review for continuation thereafter.

“These agreements are another step in helping students complete their degrees in a timely, cost-effective way,” said Shane Lewis, OU’s director of admissions. “Our entire team works diligently to create transfer-friendly policies and practices, and we’re very pleased to partner with Kirtland to ensure that students have clearly defined and efficient pathways to achieving their educational goals.”

In addition, Oakland University has also established a reverse transfer agreement with Kirtland Community College. The agreement allows OU students to automatically transfer credits back to Kirtland for the purpose of attaining an associate degree.

Under this agreement, Kirtland transfer students with at least 15 earned community college credits will have their OU transcripts automatically sent back to Kirtland after reaching 64 total credits. Kirtland will review the credits earned at OU to determine if students are eligible to receive an associate degree.

“OU is committed to helping students reach a credential at all stages of their educational journey,” said Lewis. “This agreement allows students to obtain an associate degree, while still pursuing their bachelor’s degree at Oakland.”

The reverse transfer agreement with Kirtland is Oakland University’s 10th agreement of this kind, and joins established reverse transfer agreements with Oakland Community College, Macomb Community College, Mott Community College, St. Clair County Community College, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Schoolcraft College, Henry Ford College, Bay College and Washtenaw Community College.
