Oxford, MI – Barron Industries has achieved conformance with cybersecurity controls required for defense company suppliers that handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). The Oxford-based manufacturer received certification for compliance with 110 cybersecurity best practices outlined in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-171. The certification granted by NSF Global Business Solutions applies to IT services to internal company employees and protection of company proprietary information.

The NIST 800 certification ensures Barron’s preparedness in serving its aerospace and defense customers that need to maintain information security throughout their supply chains, said company president and CEO Bruce Barron. “In safeguarding company information from attack, we are now even more competitive within the defense industry,” he said. “By obtaining outside certification of NIST compliance, we are ahead of the curve.”

In an ongoing effort to maintain information security throughout the defense supply chain, the Department of Defense (DoD) plans to implement a new program called the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), which will mandate cybersecurity audits and certifications for DoD contractors. Currently, contractors are only asked to self-certify that they have met the security requirements.

For over 35 years, Barron Industries has been a trusted partner to leading aerospace and defense companies which rely on Barron for its expertise in metals, lightweighting technologies and design for manufacturability of precision machined castings,” said Barron.

Barron Industries provides its Aerospace and Defense customers with complete mission-critical assemblies in half the industry-standard lead time. AS9100D and NADCAP accredited, Barron is a unique full-service manufacturer of both ferrous and non-ferrous investment castings, precision machined components, 3D printed rapid prototypes and completely assembled mechanical sub-systems.  Barron’s vertically integrated manufacturing process includes CNC machining, non-destructive testing, welding, assembly, barcode labeling and serialization – all performed in-house at its 65-thousand square foot facility in southeast Michigan, a global hub for the aerospace, defense, and automotive industries.

“Every component we manufacture is traced back to each operation, who performed it, and when,” said CEO Bruce Barron. “Putting all of this together and providing a complete package to the customer in half the normal lead time is what makes Barron Industries valuable to its customers.”

Barron Industries is  a supplier to some of the largest aerospace and defense contractors including General Dynamics, BAE, Oshkosh, Triumph Group, Curtiss-Wright and  Lockheed Martin, just to name a few. Typical components supplied by Barron to the defense industry include mounts, housings, power distribution chassis, towing components, canards, and exhaust tubes.
