Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Lactation Specialist provides lactation management services to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in various Oakland County Woman, Infants and Children (WIC) clinics.  Lactation specialists provide support, encouragement and accurate guidance about common concerns and issues to WIC clients throughout their breastfeeding experience.  Each specialist receives a caseload of WIC clients and makes routine contact during their breastfeeding duration.  Personal breastfeeding experience is required.  Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.


Minimum Qualifications

All applications must clearly indicate how the Minimum Qualifications, if applicable, are met. Provide as much detail as possible under employment history along with the hours worked per week at each job.

At the time of application, applicants must:

1.  Must be a high school graduate; OR have completed the state requirements for the General Educational Development Test (GED); AND
2.  Have had six (6) months experience breastfeeding.
3.  Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of Country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.
4.  Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical established for this class.

Special Requirements

1.  Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
2.  Must submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest X-rays at County expense.
