Public Health Technician - Part-Time

Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Public Health Technician is responsible for performing hearing or vision screening at various schools and clinic sites throughout Oakland County to detect hearing or vision abnormalities of children.  The Public Health Technician interprets and records test results and performs any necessary follow-up.  Technicians work with children individually, in small groups and interact with school personnel directly.  This is a part-time position which requires daily work during the school year.   Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Applicants must thoroughly document work or volunteer experience with pre-school or elementary school age children (in school, church, daycare/school age care, extracurricular clubs, or sports settings) on the employment history section of the application.

 

 


Minimum Qualifications

All applications must clearly indicate how the Minimum Qualifications, if applicable, are met. Provide as much detail as possible under employment history along with the hours worked per week at each job.

TRANSCRIPTS MAY BE REQUIRED
If a degree is used to determine if the applicant is minimally qualified to fill the position, the applicant must email a copy of their transcript at the time of application to transcripts@oakgov.com. Indicate in the email subject line the job# and job title. If a job offer is made, an official transcript will be required

At the time of application, applicants must:

1.  Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development Test; AND

2.  a.  Have had at least six (6) months of full-time work experience using audio metric or vision screening materials and instruments; OR

     b.  Have had one (1)  course in hearing or vision technician training, audiology , or a closely related subject; OR

     c.  Have successfully completed sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university with at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in one or more of the following areas: related area;
 
NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html).  The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.
OR

     d.  Have had at least six (6) months of paid or volunteer experience working directly with pre-school or elementary school age children in one or more of the following settings: school, church, daycare/school age care, extracurricular clubs, or sports.
 
3.  Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.  
 
4.  Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical for this classification.


Special Requirements

1.  Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
 
2.  Must submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest x-rays at County expense.
 
3.  Must pass the criminal background check prior to employment.
 
4.  Applicants who don't currently possess a certificate of completion of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Comprehensive Hearing and/or Vision training course must successfully complete the first available MDHHS comprehensive training course after hire and any additional MDHHS approved training that occurs prior to completing the comprehensive training course.
