Public Health Nutritionist III

Job Description

Under general supervision, is responsible for providing direct home-based nutritional services, consultation and education programs to Oakland County residents through a comprehensive public health nutrition program.  Provides consultation, guidance and evaluation related to medical nutritional therapy and basic human nutrition through established Health Division nutrition program or on a referral basis to community agencies, institutions, and individuals. This includes pregnant women, infants, infants and children with special needs, infant and children with feeding difficulties, and residents diagnosed with chronic disease.  Participates in selecting and developing educational materials, attends professional conferences and seminars and participates in developing and implementing nutrition programs County-wide.  Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
 


Minimum Qualifications

TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED

Registered Dietitian License
All applicants for this classification must upload a copy of their Dietitian License under the attachment section.  This section is used for Professional License only.  Do not upload any other documents such as reference, cover letter, resume, etc.  NOTE: If a job offer is made, an official License will be required.

At the time of application, applicants must:

1.  Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Health Nutrition, Foods & Nutrition, Dietetics, or a closely related field; AND
 
NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html).  The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.
 
2.  Be certified as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration; AND
 
3.  Have had at least three (3) years of full-time professional dietetics work experience in a public health or outpatient dietetic setting.
 
NOTE: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Nutrition, Foods & Nutrition, Dietetics or closely related area may be substituted for one year of experience.
 
4.  Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.  
 
5.  Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
 
6.  Successfully complete the six month probationary period.


Special Requirements

1.  Must maintain registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian.
 
2.  Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
 
3.  Must submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division, and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest x-rays at County expense.
