Job Description

Under general supervision, this Nutrition Technician will work in Oakland County Health Division's Woman, Infants and Children (WIC) program. The position is responsible for providing nutritional assessments, counseling and care plans for infants, children under age 5, pregnant and post-partum women. Performs health screening tasks, minor laboratory tests, program eligibility assessments and clerical work. Plays a supportive role in breastfeeding promotion and education activities.  Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.


Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, applicants must:

1.  A.  Have an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in the dietetic technician program with a clinical or community emphasis as approved by the American Dietetic Association; AND

B.  Possess registration as a Dietetic Technician with the Commission on Dietetic Registration; OR
2.  Possess a Bachelor's degree in Foods and Nutrition or Dietetics from an accredited college or university as approved by the American Dietetic Association.

NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (  The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.
3.  Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.  Out of Country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.
4.  Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
5.  Successfully complete the six month probationary period

Special Requirements

1.  Must maintain Dietetic Technician registration.
2.  Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
3.  Must submit to immunizations as required by the Department of Health & Human Services and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest x-rays at County expense.
