Job Description

The Hearing/Vision Technician Supervisor-Vision is responsible for coordinating, reviewing and providing assistance to Public Health Technicians performing screening to detect vision abnormalities in preschool and school-age children. Key activities of this position include: Supervising a group of Public Health Technicians; performing and evaluating vision screenings; providing counseling, detailed information regarding test results and medical referral sources regarding a child's vision; and other duties to assist in coordination of Oakland County Health Division's state mandated vision screening program.  Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.



Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, applicants must:

1.  Have successfully completed a program in hearing threshold screening and/or vision screening sponsored by a State or County Public Health Agency, completed a Certificate Program for Otolaryngology Personnel (CPOP), or an optometric technician program from an accredited college or university; AND
2.  Have had two (2) years of full-time work experience in a vision screening and/or hearing screening, administering audiometric and/or vision screening tests.
3.  Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.
4.  Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
5.  Successfully complete the six-month probationary period.

Special Requirements

1.  Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
2.  Must submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest X-rays at County expense.
3.  Must pass periodic criminal background checks and prior to employment.
4.  Applicants who don't currently possess a certificate of completion of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Comprehensive Hearing and/or Vision training course must successfully complete the first available MDHHS comprehensive training course after hire and any additional MDHHS approved training that occurs prior to completing the comprehensive training course.
5.  Before beginning employment in this position, candidates will be required to provide Oakland County Health Division with documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services that they have not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect. In addition, applicants being considered for hire will be asked to sign a form authorizing Oakland County Health Division to request and receive a criminal history check in accordance with the privacy act of 1974. 
Applicants for this position at Oakland County Health Division will not be considered if they have been convicted of either of the following:

  1. Child Abuse or Neglect
    (b) A felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire.
