Job Description
NVH Technician Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate in this position will assist in testing for development and root cause identification of NVH matters of automotive climate control systems (including but not limited to HVAC, compressor, water pump, and refrigeration lines)
  • Conduct a variety of developmental and complex tests in a manner that provides quality results
  • Assist in the design and fabrication of fixtures, based on test requirements, for the mounting of test samples
  • Install, remove and modify prototype or experimental vehicle components for test purposes
  • Interact with requesting engineers in order to provide necessary support to their respective organizations
  • Ensure tests are set up properly
  • Diagnose test setup issues using appropriate tools and techniques including electronic circuit theory and knowledge of the measurement tools
  • Calculate and record test data, note discrepancies and make corrections as required
  • Ensure proper paperwork, tracking log, and / or whiteboards documentation is complete
  • Support data acquisition requirements and conversions, when needed
  • Generate and issue Test Reports based on data collected from tests
  • Backup and store data and reports per standard shared drive practices
  • Identify opportunities to reduce test set up and run time
  • Assist in the training of new technicians, as directed
  • Bring testing and / or laboratory concerns to the attention of laboratory management
  • Responsible to stop testing when circumstances arise that may compromise the integrity of the test
  • Use HLIMS online lab tool to manage requests, track instrumentation, schedule testing, and track labor hours
  • Maintain equipment in operating condition to maximize test lab up-time (Preventive Maintenance)
NVH Technician Requirements
  • 2 years’ experience, preferred in automotive technician role
  • Desired Competencies, Experience, & Qualifications
  • Experience with test bench basics: tool usage, fixture fabrication, ability to work with electrical components while being conscientious of potential cuts, burns, and shock risks
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of NVH data acquisition and analysis including:
  • Familiarity with instrumentation set ups with microphones, accelerometers, optical tachometers, and power supplies
  • Analysis of NVH results using Head Acoustics Artemis
  • Able to bend, lift, and transport fixtures and parts with proper tools
  • Working product knowledge of climate systems a plus including:
  • Refrigeration fundamentals (refrigeration cycle & control, compressor operation)
  • HVAC fundamentals (blower motor, filtration, diffusers, actuators)
  • This position requires excellent communication skills (written and oral) which will be required to interact with the NVH, product design, and testing teams
  • Ability to work in a team environment is a must with flexibility to switch from job to job on a moment’s notice as needed
  • Working knowledge of NVH principles including acoustics, vibrations, fluid mechanics, order tracking, and sound quality a plus
  • Special Requirements (ie: Overtime, Travel, etc)
  • Occasional local travel (testing suppliers, company facilities) and overtime as needed
