Parks Supervisor-Groveland Oaks

Job Description

Under general supervision, is responsible for the daily administration, and operation of Oakland County park(s) and accompanying facilities. Inspects and supervises the maintenance, improvement and repair of buildings and grounds, equipment, cross country, nature and trails, beach front, and sanitary facilities. Organizes golf course events, outings and league schedules. Responsible for purchase and inventory of golf related merchandise. Learns and researches job-related materials regarding customer service and team building techniques. Designs and modifies equipment to meet event needs and to increase efficiency and economy of operations. Is responsible for the collection and depositing of monies and fees, and for providing budget recommendations for assigned park(s) to Parks and Recreation Administration. Parks and Recreation Supervisors are responsible for hiring, training, discipline and discharge of park staff. Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

 


Minimum Qualifications

If a degree is used to determine if the applicant is minimally qualified to fill the position, the applicant must email a copy of their transcript at the time of application to transcripts@oakgov.com. At the time of application, applicants must:

1. a. Have a Bachelor's degree in Parks & Recreation, Natural Resources, Forestry, Horticulture or related field; AND

b. Have had at least two (2) years of full-time experience in the management of a park or recreation facility which included responsibility for providing services to the public such as golf courses, campground or other park related services; OR

2. a. Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion for the General Education Development (GED) Test; AND

b. Have had at least six (6) years of full time-experience in the management of a park or recreation facility which included responsibility for providing services to the public such as golf courses, campground or other park related services.

NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the fields described above, may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

3. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date. 

4. When assigned to the Golf Courses, must maintain Michigan Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator's Certification in Turf Grass, Ornamental Plants, and Right of Way.

NOTE: Employees without the required Michigan Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator's Certification at time of applications must obtain it by the end of the six-month probationary period, at the employees expense.

5. Pass the complete examination including the employment medical established for this classification.

6. Successfully complete the six month probation period.

 

Special Requirements

1. Must maintain a valid vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.

2. Must maintain Michigan Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator's Certification in Turf Grass, Ornamental Plants, and Right of Way when assigned to the Golf Courses.
