Job Description

Under close supervision, performs entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the County. Performs assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. May perform duties such as gathering and organizing data to provide information for departmental special projects or reports; basic arithmetic computations; assist in preparing written reports; accompany professional level employees on assignments; conduct interviews with clients or County personnel to obtain basic information for departmental use; contacts other County departments or outside agencies by phone to request or give information and other related duties as assigned. Assignments serve to offer practical experience and broad exposure to the County's organizational structure. Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

 


Minimum Qualifications

TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED

This section is used for transcripts only. Do not upload any other documents such as reference, cover letter, resume, etc. NOTE: If a job offer is made, an official transcript will be required. 

At the time of application, applicants must

1.  Must meet one of the following requirements: 

a. Current enrollment in an accredited college or university to be classified as a freshman or sophomore status with less than 56 credit hours completed (equates to base step of salary range). 

b. Current enrollment in an accredited college or university and completion of 56 semester credit hours to be classified as junior/senior status (equates to one year step of salary range). 

c.  Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in a graduate degree program (equates to two year step of salary range). 

NOTE:  When assigned to Circuit Court must possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.  Out of Country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.

2.  Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical established for the class.


Special Requirements

1.  EMPLOYMENT OF RELATIVES 
No County employee in an administrative, policy-making or personnel decision-making capacity may employ a relative for work in that department, division or unit in which he or she exercises such authority.
 
2.  WHEN ASSIGNED TO CIRCUIT COURT 
Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
                                                                                                            
3.  WHEN ASSIGNED TO HEALTH DIVISION AND / OR CHILDREN'S VILLAGE 
Employees must submit to immunizations as required by the Department of Health & Human Services and submit to a tuberculin skin test or chest x ray at County expense.
 
4.  WHEN ASSIGNED TO CHILDREN'S VILLAGE 
Before beginning employment candidates will be required to provide Children's Village with documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services (previously called Family Independence Agency) that they have not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect.  In addition, applicants being considered for hire will be asked to sign a form authorizing Children's Village to request and receive a criminal history check in accordance with the privacy act of 1974. 
 
Applicants for positions at Children's Village will not be considered if they have been convicted of either of the following:
 
(a)  Child Abuse or Neglect.
(b)  A felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire.
 
5.  WHEN ASSIGNED TO SHERIFF'S OFFICE

A background criminal check will be conducted before employment begins.  Information obtained during the background check will be considered in the hiring decision.
