The Internet of Things (IoT) is changing how manufacturers design and develop products. From industrial and medical equipment to consumer goods, the products we use today are becoming increasingly connected and smart. While the IoT brings new revenue opportunities for manufacturers, there are also new product development challenges that can eat into profitability. Join Automation Alley and product development experts Peter Bilello, President of CIMdata, and David Hofer, Electrical Technical Specialist and Certified Interconnect Designer at Fisher Unitech, for an educational session on creating smarter products with seamless collaboration between the electrical and mechanical engineers and design teams.

Peter Bilello has more than 28 years of experience in the development of business-enabling IT solutions for research, engineering, and manufacturing organizations worldwide. He has participated in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) analysis, selection, implementation, and training; CAD/CAM/CAE/CIM implementation and management; synchronous and lean manufacturing consulting; software engineering; and general data management strategy development and support. He has authored numerous papers and research reports on PLM and related topics, and his articles, commentaries, and perspectives have appeared in publications throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia. David Hofer, Electrical Technical Specialist and CID, Fisher Unitech

David Hofer began using computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools in the late-1980s doing embedded/FPGA programming and printed circuit board layout. He began using SOLIDWORKS CAD design software in 2011 while working on a high-speed imaging project. In May 2014, he joined Fisher Unitech where he is the Electrical Technical Specialist and a Certified Interconnect Designer. His expertise includes helping companies realize the value of using SOLIDWORKS software to develop electrical and electronics designs.
