General Maintenance Mechanic

Job Summary

Under limited supervision, when assigned to the Facilities Maintenance unit an employee in this class performs preventive and general maintenance work and repairs in one or more phases of a number of building mechanical/electrical trades such as electrical, plumbing-pipefitting, heating, cooling and refrigeration. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
 
Under limited supervision, when assigned to the Architectural Maintenance unit, an employee in this class performs preventive and general maintenance work and repairs in one or more phases of a number of building architectural trades such as carpentry, painting-plastering, cement, sheet metal, masonry and other crafts. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
 
When assigned to either unit, an employee in this class may work alone or with other maintenance employees in maintenance, installation and repair projects in County facilities and on County property.  May be assigned to a County building with responsibility for the architectural and mechanical maintenance required in the operation of building or buildings, or may be assigned to a general maintenance group, performing mechanical and architectural maintenance work required in the operation of buildings, or may be assigned to a general maintenance group, performing maintenance, mechanical and architectural duties in different facilities or on County property on an as needed basis. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.


Minimum Qualifications

 

At the time of application, applicants must:

1.   Be a high school graduate; OR have completed the state requirements for the General Educational Development Test (GED); AND
 
2.   Have at least two (2) years of full-time work experience in commercial building maintenance and involving the use of one or more of the following mechanical/electrical trades: electrical, plumbing-pipefitting, heating, cooling and refrigeration; or in a related recognized facilities or building mechanical trade; AND
 
3.   Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.  Out of Country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date; AND
 
4.   Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
 
5.   Successfully complete the six (6) month probationary period.

Special Requirements

Must maintain a Valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
