Job Description
Prepares major designs of complex units, mechanisms, complete components or subsystems of vehicles. This position may also prepare major designs of complete material run-off required in the manufacturing process. Work is creative with a wide-latitude for independent judgment and general supervision. The position is responsible to ensure that vehicle requirements are incorporated into the design. This position is responsible to blend the studio theme with the functional engineering requirements so that a design can be manufactured and assembled on a consistent basis. The Senior Designer may also interface with design studio stylists, product design team, manufacturing engineer and assembly plant representatives.


— Originate and develop practical designs that consider fit, function, weight, and cost
— Design/math model (CAD), instrument panels (IP's), IP components, floor console components, cockpit structures, interior trim to meet program timing requirements
— Develop design proposals/studies (CAD), based on manufacturing criteria, Customer imperatives and Customer driven requirements
— Utilize Part Books
— Utilize macro timing per part
— Utilize D.A.P. dates
— Utilize Design Kits
— Construct criteria sections and typical sections and update as necessary
— Participate in internal and Customer PDT's, integration meetings, virtual reviews and build reviews
— Establish a strong, effective relationship with the cross-functional team of Engineering, FEA and Manufacturing
Verify Customer released math for compliance to requirements
— Resolves technical design conflicts
— Prepare sections, graphics and images for presentations – internally and with the Customer. Present to Customers as requested
— Maintenance of Design Kits and adherence to Design Timelines for delivery of high quality math data solutions
Participate in pursuit activities for design proposals to support business growth
— Participate in design reviews for responsible content
— Performs design analysis and calculations
— Adhere to design standards
— Follow build and installation as requested
— Assist supervisor in developing plans, objectives and schedules for multiple systems
— Investigate assignment content to determine timely and cost effective method of accomplishing tasks
— Interface with Customer, Vendors and Suppliers
Support Customer goals by promoting commitment to quality, timing, and cost objectives
— Responsible for performance of company Quality System procedures in relation to job description
— Other projects, assignments as required by management
— Abide by company regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions

— Advanced design experience in Instrument Panels (I/P's) and cockpits, with a proven track record of success
— Strong packaging knowledge for cockpit subsystem - components, occupant safety and human factor requirements
— Strong knowledge of injection molding, skin forming, foam molding and stamping principles to facilitate design activities
— Creative problem solving skills and self-starting
— UG NX CAD system expertise and expert knowledge of TeamCenter
Skillful in creating conceptual designs
— Working knowledge of GD&T
— Extensive experience working with Customer Studio personnel preferred
— Certified - Class "A” Surfacing preferred
— Strong understanding of materials and components
— Strong analytical abilities
— Verbal and written communication skills
— Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills
— Physical: Able to lift approx 20 pounds or less

— 10 + years experience – Product Development, Interior Trim
— Advanced CAD training
— Advanced design skill training or equivalent
— Four year degree in relevant field or equivalent education and work experience preferred
