Automation Engineer
Summary of Primary Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Develop new and support existing robotic automation systems. This includes both in-house and off-site equipment installations.
  • Ability to travel as needed (<25%) when support is required at off-site equipment installations.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to support 2nd and 3rd shifts as required.
  • Identify and implement appropriate new technologies, controls and automation to maintain a competitive advantage in the market.
  • Manage new projects considering budget/cost targets, delivery timelines and early build events.
  • Communicate with customers, suppliers and internal personnel during all phases of new launches.
  • Troubleshoot and coordinate appropriate response measures for existing production equipment.
  • Responsible for all aspects of electrical and control systems including electrical controls system design, specification, programming, debug, and start-up assistance.
This position works closely with all levels of the organization to fulfill needs.  Activities of this person will include (but are not limited to):
  • Management of new equipment installations
  • Develop program plans including Project Proposals, Gant Charts, Open Issues Logs, Budgets and Spending Plans, and Lessons Learned Documents
  • Generation and modification of control & pneumatic schematics
  • Robot programming (Fanuc & Sepro preferred)
  • PLC programming (Allen Bradley preferred)
  • Operator interface programming
  • Motion control system configuration, programming and support
  • Ensure that equipment performs as specified
  • Collaboration with outside vendors to ensure that all project goals are met
  • Work with internal skilled trades, operators and outside vendors to troubleshoot hardware and software issues
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in engineering leadership, including:
  • Development and implementation of safe, standard and robust engineering practices
  • Detailed documentation relevant to appropriate stage of project
  • Project management
  • Ability to work with all levels to identify issues and bring to resolution
  • Preparation of cost estimates for early customer quotations
  • Project cost justification and budget preparation
  • Research of new equipment, systems, and processes to advance plant operations
  • Supervision of equipment installation and commissioning
Job Requirements:
Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or a related Engineering discipline
  • CAD Experience
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Project Management
  • Knowledge of Robotic Systems & Programming
  • Knowledge of Pneumatic Circuits
Knowledge of Electrical systems, examples may include:
  • NEC Code
  • Control Circuits
  • Motion Control
  • PLC Programming
Training: AutoCad, SolidWorks, Fanuc & Sepro Robotic programming, Visual Components Simulation, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access & PowerPoint, Oracle ERP
