Client is seeking a Controls Project Engineer / Technician for Logistics Solutions to join their Robotics and Motion team, the first major global industrial robotics manufacturer to produce robots in the United States. Client is the leading supplier of industrial robots, modular manufacturing systems and service and has installed more than 250,000 robots worldwide.
Focusing on controls engineering, lead the execution of projects and ensure that all related activities are performed in accordance with client policy, contractual agreements, quality standards, health, safety & environment requirements, financial targets, as well as schedule commitments. Manage project-related documentation to ensure effective version control, customer document transmissions, according to contractual agreements and the effective status tracking for all project documents, claims information and lessons learned from the project.
Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Delivers an engineered solution, based on the sales design to fulfill the contractual commitments in full, on time, within budget
- Adhere to ensure compliance of all client policies, quality standards and HSE requirements.
- Main point of contact for controls engineering during project execution
- Leads the controls engineering team allocated to the project, defining main guidelines, allocating project tasks, and motivating and monitoring internal and external resources to accomplish all tasks and milestones. Provides performance feedback regarding allocated resources working on projects.
- Defines, jointly with project manager, all project plan documents, including scope and financial plans, schedule and risk management plans.
- Ensures that the project follows execution best practices and client policies. Effectively monitors and controls project progress and efficient resource utilization. Monitors and controls project financials, overseeing project invoicing status, cost, expenses and cash flow. Identifies, qualifies, quantifies and manages project risks, and ensures that all opportunities are identified and pursued. Captures, analyzes and shares lessons learned throughout the project.
- Ensures that the project is formally closed-out, as contractually agreed. Drives the formal acceptance of the project, contract close-out and its acknowledgement by the customer.
- Ensures that the project consistently applies contract and claims management, in accordance with client policies and contractual agreements. Coordinates with Supply Chain Management, and successfully procures required services, materials and equipment for the project from external and internal suppliers. Support Supply Chain Management in supplier negotiations, claims and project changes.
- Acts as key contact for the customer and an escalation point for project issues. Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicates with all stakeholders.
- Ensures the project follows and complies with company health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Manages project proposals and related documentation to ensure proper version control in the document management system. Ensures project documentation is compliant with company policy, including format, receipt, registration, number, filing, recovery and the issue of documents.
Basic qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED AND 12 years of experience in engineering, controls, mechanical, electrical, design, robotics, automation or related field OR
- Associate's Degree AND 10 years of experience in engineering, controls, mechanical, electrical, design, robotics, automation or related field OR
- Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years of experience in engineering, controls, mechanical, electrical, design, robotics, automation or related field OR
- Master's Degree AND 6 years of experience in engineering, controls, mechanical, electrical, design, robotics, automation or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a Project Engineer role
- Robot Operation System (ROS) experience is a plus
- Knowledge, and awareness in automated controls systems and robot applications
- Efficient using 2D AutoCAD to generate control system packages
- PLC/HMI programming experience with an emphasis on Rockwell, Siemens and Telemecanique controllers
- Experience with different fieldbus architectures such as DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus
- Functional experience programming VFD’s and Servo controllers
- Familiar with international standards (IEC, ISO, NFPA, NEC, UL)
- Self-reliant and able to make decisions under pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Creative thinker and problem solver
- Robotics or warehouse automation experience
- Good knowledge of Project Management & Planning tools
