Job Description
Test Engineer Responsibilities
  • Benchmark the lab’s progress by maintaining a database of all testing data and analyze the data with statistics-Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) / Monthly Utilization
  • Support the business growth through the design and execution of OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and aftermarket customer specific catalyst aging and evaluation procedures and programs
  • Interface with Umicore’s technical personnel to insure correlation and catalyst testing consistency between other Umicore laboratories for Research Technology (RT)
  • Work with Product Development (PD) and Product Application (PA) to explore other test methods, understand test variability, and develop tools to improve understanding of test results
  • Train, manage engine laboratory personal to carry out successful, safe and efficient operation
  • Support and develop diesel thermal and soot aging, and chemical aging project for diesel parts (burner)
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment and advanced testing techniques to improve quality
  • Prescribe protocols for maintenance of equipment and components to improve quality
  • Overall continual improvement including quality checks to improve reproducibility
  • Data analysis and integrity to maintain quality
  • Keep abreast of new technologies through personal readings; training seminars; and participation in public conferences and meetings (i.e. Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Manufacturers of Emission Controls Association (MECA) etc.)
  • Present Engine Lab status updates at internal PD / PA-Lab meetings
  • Good working knowledge of standard emission testing procedures and applicable government rules and regulations
  • Support the Technical Center goal to increase North American catalyst market share and profitability
  • Ensure the engine lab meets IATF-16949:2016 quality requirements and ISO 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007
  • Ensure laboratory procedures adhere to best practices such as SAE, ASME, CRC, MECA and internal standards
 
Test Engineer Requirements
  • Education & Technical Background
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 1-3 years minimum in an engineering position working with engine development, testing and engine control electronics
  • Fluent English language skills are required
  • Excellent Organizational, Prioritization and Project Management Skills
