Job Description
Metrology Technician Responsibilities
  • Interfaces with Quality, Engineering and Production to ensure inspection methods, processes and systems and components are in accordance with customer requirements and the QMS
  • Programs and operates CMM, 3D Scanning and various metrology equipment and devices (i.e. CMM, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, verniers, comparators, gear profile,contracer, Roundness & contamination tester machine)
  • Performs basic maintenance and calibration on inspection equipment; Collects, collates, and reports data results in required formats
  • Schedule / manage workflow through the CMM and Quality Inspection areas
  • Supports risk assessments (DFMEA), in-process inspection, and final component inspection
  • Perform CMM inspection of component Fixtures, Gages, and Tooling as required
  • Coordinates calibrations of inspection, measuring, and test equipment with third-party accredited vendors ensuring proper handling, storage, packaging, preservation, and delivery
  • Reviews certificates of calibration and maintains records of calibrations
  • Comply with CMM program validation and gage suitability
  • Train and assist Production, Quality and Engineering personnel in the proper handling, use and care of plant measurement devices and inspection equipment
  • Perform general calibrations and preventative maintenance for quality inspection equipment
  • Approves systems and components for finished product and releasing for final shipping
  • Reports any deviations, non-conformances, product, or in-process issues to Quality management
  • Follows safe work practices, complies with Safety policies and procedures, proper and safe use of equipment and tools, and identifies and reports unsafe working
Metrology Technician Requirements
  • Associates of Science Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical / engineering discipline
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in component and systems inspection
  • Working knowledge of APQP, GD&T, Control Plans, FMEA, PPAP, and familiarity with the requirements of TS and ISO17025 certification and reporting
  • Understanding of component Traceability requirements
  • Minimum of two (2) years of layout inspection
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and applicable specifications
  • Proficiency in CMM programing and operation, dimensional metrology, measurement, inspection methods, and calibration
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, presentation
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work amongst cross-functional teams
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, Power Point, Access; CALYPSO, GAGEtrak
