Job Description
Customer Engineer Responsibilities
  • Leads a cross-functional engine cooling module development team including members from design, validation, purchasing, quality and process planning
  • Manages all technical activities pertaining to assigned engine cooling module development projects from the acquisition phase to product launch
  • Executes and pursues technical project management activities for each phase of the product development cycle
  • Interfaces directly with customer(s) and represents all areas of engineering (i.e. CAE, Testing, Prototype and Advanced Engineering) as a single point of contact
  • Understands and communicates customer requirements for engine cooling components
  • Maintains customer and internal open issues lists and drives activities to closure
  • Assures that all project documentation such as DVP&Rs, FMEAs, design reviews, DFA reviews and product cost calculations is maintained and accurate
  • Initiates, defines and drives engineering change management activities resulting from customer requests or product cost optimization initiatives
  • Coordinates product cost calculations during the development phase to determine and track product profitability
  • Coordinates customer and supplier visits as required
 
Customer Engineer Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years engineering experience
  • Strong technical background, preferably in US truck or automotive applications (Engine Cooling, engine concepts, emissions)
  • Demonstrated high level skills in product development, preferably for US truck or automotive applications
  • Knowledge of product cost calculations preferred
  • High level of interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Basic GD&T knowledge preferred
  • Validation and / or simulation background is a plus
  • Familiar with standard production processes such as casting, injection molding and sheet metal
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Working-level second language skills is a plus
  • Able to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Able to communicate effectively with peers, managers, and directors, and to present to groups of customers or employees of the organization
  • Values and considers the perspectives and backgrounds of all parties
  • Ability to apply concepts and information typically taught during a four-year college or university course
  • Ability to define and solve problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 20 pounds
