Job Description
Controls Engineer Responsibilities
  • Design electrical circuits, pneumatic circuits, plc programs and HMI configurations to control assembly automation for the automotive powertrain industry
  • Effectively communicate with vendors, co-workers and customers while completing design tasks
  • Design automotive powertrain assembly controls systems to conform to as-sold specifications as described in written sales proposals and kick-off meetings
  • Develop, program and document:
  • 480VAC and 120VAC power distribution circuits
  • 24VDC power and logic control circuits
  • Safety circuits applying latest automotive requirements
  • PLC I / O layouts
  • Pneumatic control circuits
  • PLC machine control programs
  • HMI configurations
  • Perform start-up of above systems in facilities and customer plants as required
  • Understand customer design and build specifications and specific project requirements as described by customer supplied documents
  • Provide completed designs that meet high quality standards, cost targets, and schedule constraints
  • Obtain necessary subcontract support and quotations for engineering services and purchased components
  • Interface with and provide support to all operational departments including Sales, Manufacturing, Project Management, Service and Applications
  • Interface with customers’ technical personnel in a professional manner
  • Regular reporting of project progress and status to the customer and management
  • Participate in project review meetings regarding the project execution and progress
Controls Engineer Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years’ experience designing machine control systems for automotive applications
  • 3+ years’ experience designing electrical schematics with AutoCAD
  • 3+ years’ experience with Siemens S7 programming experience
  • PLC logic, RLL, STL
  • HMI configurations
  • Safety PLC
  • Project a professional appearance and attitude
  • Good customer relation skills
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Good communication and technical writing skills
  • Must be willing to travel to customer locations for start-up and support
  • Valid drivers’ license that is recognized in the state of Michigan
  • Must be eligible for a valid passport
